FWIW, the terminology is coming from a real live user who became confused.
I can figure out how to get a gravatar, no need for the wikihow instructions. This isn't about me, its about less web-savvy users who haven't heard of gravatar.
Sure you always had to create a gravatar account, but the experience was much more direct and thereby less confusing for real users.

My beef is mostly with that screen there.
2 "ifs", 3 calls to action? The process might be exactly the same (let us confirm your email), but it's more confusing and less streamlined to get through it.
I've seen talk about allowing the uploading of avatars, so I thought I'd bring this up. I guess the Discourse team isn't as concerned with this as I am, point taken.
